NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home (PPOTH) Instructor

This two day class includes NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT)

Enrollment deposit: $150.00

If you have BIT on file with the NRA within the past two years you do not need the first day of this class. Fee is $275.00 for the second day.

Description:

This course teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching the NRA Basic Personal Protection Outside The Home course. This is a class about how to teach others the basics of handling and shooting a pistol as outlined in NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home class. This class is intended for shooters that already have excellent safety and marksmanship skills. The class does not teach students how to shoot, it teaches students how (using NRA methods and lesson plans) to teach others to shoot. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills by participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination.

Prerequisites:

You must be a NRA Member to be certified as a PPOTH Instructor.
You must have successfully completed PPITH Instructor and PPOTH Basic.
A valid current government issued ID is required.
1 - Must be an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor. Prior to the course, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearms background in pre-course assessment exercises.
2 - The NRA pre-course qualification will have a minimum passing score of 80 out of a possible 100.
3 - Pass PPITH Basic class examination with a 90% or higher.
4 - Complete NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT), or have taken BIT within the past two years.
5 - Complete instructor candidate questionnaire.

Things to bring to class:

Three ring notebook, note paper, pen, 250 rounds of ammunition, your gun (must have an external slide lock) and a suitable IWB or OWB holster, a minimum of three magazines or speed-loaders for your pistol with carriers or pocket space to stow extra magazines on your person, wrap around eye protection and muff style hearing protection. A baseball style cap with a bill is recommended.

No live ammunition is permitted in the classroom.

Standards are fired during the live fire exercises and a written exam will be given at the end of the course.
